Joseph W. Thompson IV Is First Attorney Licensed in South Carolina
to Earn LEED® AP Designation

Charlotte, NC - April 28, 2008: Today attorney Joseph Thompson received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional (AP) designation from the Green Building Certification Institute, which administers the premier certification program for Green building standards in the United States and is an affiliate of the US Green Building Council. Mr. Thompson was the first attorney licensed in the state of South Carolina and the fourth attorney in North Carolina to complete the accreditation process.

The rigorous training required to become accredited covers all aspects of the LEED program and the certification process for Green buildings. Water handling, energy efficiencies, sustainable technologies and "clean tech" products must be learned, along with air quality standards and an understanding of how Green attributes can spur innovation and ongoing improvements.

Mr. Thompson is active in the Green Initiatives Group (GIG) at Horack Talley. The GIG practice advises clients of risks and exposures, rewrites contracts and leases, works with municipal and governmental entities, introduces new technology partners, and advises on carbon credit trade and carbon footprint exposure to corporations and municipalities throughout the Carolinas and beyond.
