Profile

Phillip Lewis’s practice consists primarily of resolving a broad spectrum of legal disputes involving real property, with a focus on title issues. He has successfully handled hundreds of real-property cases across North Carolina, from the far western mountains to the Outer Banks. His litigation practice also comprises homeowners’ association law and contract law. Phillip employs an intelligent, nuanced style of diplomacy-first litigation that reduces costs and increases the likelihood of bringing about a sensible resolution between the parties.

Phillip is also one of the founding members of Horack Talley’s Beer, Wine & Spirits practice group. This legal team was formed to provide representation to and serve as an advocate for craft breweries, wineries, and distilleries across the Carolinas. Starting with an abiding appreciation for the art of hand-crafted libations, Horack Talley’s BW&S group contains lawyers from several of the firm’s venerated practice areas and brings decades of insight and experience to bear on behalf of this growing North and South Carolina craft industry.

The Beer, Wine & Spirits practice group offers a comprehensive array of services, including:

• Incorporation / entity formation
• Assistance with selection of the best location for your brewery, winery, or distillery
• Acquisition or leasing of real estate
• All aspects of due diligence
• Federal, state, and local licensing and permitting
• Labeling compliance and trademark
• Packaging, selling, and distribution
• Employment and employee issues
• Contract issues

In his limited spare time, Phillip plays several musical instruments, collects rare books, studies language, writes literary fiction under a suitably inconspicuous nom de plume, and enjoys craft beer of all makes and models, with a special affinity for strong IPAs and even stronger imperial stouts. Phillip also enjoys running the trails, kayaking, and riding his mountain bike at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
