Profile
Mike Hunter’s background includes real estate and litigation, with a concentration in the area of creditors’ rights, including debt collection, bankruptcy, foreclosure, lien enforcement, and collateral recovery. He chairs the Horack Talley Creditors’ Rights Practice Group.

His practice focuses on community and condominium association law. He represents more than 500 homeowners’ associations in western North Carolina.

Mr. Hunter is licensed to practice in all North Carolina state courts, all three districts of the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

He is a columnist for The Charlotte Observer and The News & Observer in Raleigh, answering reader questions on HOA-related topics. He is frequently quoted by reporters locally and nationally, including in HOAleader.com, the leading publication for community associations nationwide. Mr. Hunter is a popular speaker on community association law. His recent speaking engagements include the annual conferences of the Community Association Institute and the National Business Institute, and CLE classes produced by Lorman Education and the NC-HOA.

Mike Hunter is the co-author of How to Get Results in the Collection of Delinquent Debts in North Carolina (1996*), and has written numerous manuscripts for various presentations and seminars on community association law.

Mr. Hunter served as Assistant Attorney for the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Office between 1995 and 2004. His community work includes the Boy Scouts of America, for whom he has served in multiple capacities at the troop, district, and council levels since 1992; serving as a member/chairman of the board of directors for Myers Park Baptist Through-the-Week School; and serving also as a member of the board of directors for Dilworth Little League.
